THE ALPHABET MANIFESTO
Alphabet is a brand new magazine for the people who make a home together. We believe that families are the sum of their everyday triumphs and trials. We believe the home is a lived space and not a showroom. We believe there is a need for families to slow down and return to basics, like curiosity, collaboration and storytelling.

OUR MISSION
It seemed like many parenting or family-related magazines featured a polished, picture-perfect home that was, quite simply, not at all like our own. So we set out to create an alternative: a family journal that celebrates the personal foundations of our homes in their many different forms.

ISSUE B : SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Now accepting submissions until April 18

What defines, grows, and enhances a home?
We are now in the process of seeking stories for Issue B, which will be released for distribution in Australia and worldwide in mid-August.

For Issue B, we’re looking for stories that fulfill the following criteria:

• An idea inspired by or somehow related to the letter ‘B’. For example, some early pitches we’ve received have proposed stories that feature breadmaking, bookshops, breakfast, and backyards.

• A strong demonstration of craft. We want writing with teeth, not just writing that paints a pretty picture. We want writing with a compelling voice, strong characters, and a sense of place.

• A unique, original perspective on home and family life. No two families are the same, and our stories should reflect. Tell us the stories that make your family totally unlike our families while showing us the threads we all share in common.

• A deep regard for a diverse group of readers. Families are not strictly a mum and dad with one or two kids all under one roof. We encourage you to share how you’ve come to define what “family” is.

• Curiosity, creativity and candidness. Be open, be honest. We’re not picture-perfect, and we don’t expect our contributors’ lives to be either.

• 400 - 650 words in length.

Issue B, The Black & White Issue

There’s something about black-and-white film that cuts to the core of its subjects and shows us what we’re made of. Scrubbed clean of color, we become light and shadow, surface and depth. We become the rough canvas for a sunbeam’s scrupulous strokes.

Inspired, we’ve dedicated Issue B to the art of hand-developed, black-and-white film photography.  These images will be hand developed at Johnny & Rebecca Patience's home in Ireland and will play a major part in evoking Alphabet’s “back-to-basics” aesthetic.
